What I Would Do If I Owned American Girl

Hi everyone!
(CAN YOU ALL BELIEVE IT'S SEPTEMBER??? O0O)
I am here posting with my new schedule! I can already tell I'm gonna like only posting once a week! It totally gives me the time I need to make quality posts!:)
This post is about what I would do differently if I owned the American Girl company!:D Let's get right on into it-

1. Lower the ding-dang prices
SERIOUSLY. I remember the times when I was younger and dolls only costed like $95 and the furniture was $60, and everything was WAAAYYY cheaper! I would bring it back down to that so more people could afford it. And if more people can afford it, more people will buy it, which means MORE MONEY FOR ME!XD

2. Get the advice of some reputable bloggers
Everyone knows that we bloggers have some amazing ideas that American Girl needs to follow. And I really do think that someone in the AG company does look at some of our blogs because does anyone notice the lack of pink in the most recent releases? That was all of the people who didn't like it getting their voices heard! (So, that means that people need to stop complaining about all of the blue and purple. THERE'S NO PINK SO TRY TO LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE!!!XD)
But since bloggers have such great, creative ideas, I would hire some occasionally to give me ideas to make AG better.:)
3. Clothing...
I have lots of thoughts about AG clothes...I couldn't pin this change down to just one idea. So here are all of my ideas for changes to AG clothes-
More neutrals! I think that having some outfits that include neutrals would be a great idea for more of the older doll collectors. They could still be super cute and fun, but not all colorful.;)
More pieces! Is it just me or do you think that the prices are getting higher, and there seems to sometimes be fewer pieces in the sets? I'd change that!
Things would ACTUALLY go! Yeah, the outfits would actually match or at least compliment the other colors. Because some of the outfits AG has come out with need to have some color changes.XD

4. New face molds
I have no idea if this would be hard, but I would want to do it! Because I am getting a little tired of the classic face mold and Josefina face mold...
Plus, how about they make another doll with the Marie-Grace face mold? Huh? HUH?!
5. Stop. Making. Movies.
I would stop making GOTY movies! They're terribly cheesy most of the time and the acting...*shudders* AND if the American Girl's age is 11, I'd ACTUALLY get an 11 year old to play the part, not a Justice model who looks like she is 14!XD
Adding onto this idea, I would bring back the Historical Character movies. I'd make them like how they used to be made- AMAZING.

6. Character creativity
It can't be just me who thinks that American Girl reuses a lot of the same themes for their dolls (especially GOTY). We've had at least three somewhat tropical Girl of the Years... We've had tons who love horses or animals in general.
I think it's time to get some new ideas!
How about a brainiac who wants to grow up to be an inventor? What about a girl who has a passion to help people who suffer. The story would be all about her helping kids at hospitals or helping out at elderly homes! A girl living in the U.S. who comes from a Mexican heritage, and some family emergency occurs, pulling her out of America and forcing her to go back to Mexico and get in touch with her roots!
These are just some random ideas off of the top of my head, but we could use some diversity for their stories and interests!

7. MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM DOLL BOOTH!!!!
I would do this so hard. You would be able to make a custom doll in store and get her within a couple weeks or so! I have no idea how realistic this is, but I would love to do it!:D
***
So, those are just some ideas I have that might help make the company better. You know, for when I become CEO in 10 years.
Pssssshhh...
I love AG, and this wasn't a post where I could complain, but just some ideas I have.;) I hope you enjoyed!

What kind of changes would YOU make to American Girl if you had the chance?:)

  3. Good ideas! In my opinion, I'd probably keep the GOTY movies (girls might be disappointed not to have them) But make them waay better. Yes, I agree with prices, and neutrals, and diversity. XD American Girl is Way. Too. Expensive. XD
Oh, and I remember an idea another blogger had, to have a display of the archived historicals, just to see them in stores, for old times sake. ;-) That'd be pretty neat.

  4. I love all of these ideas! AG IS so expensive... :(
My sister and I were just thinking of a custom doll booth! That'd be so fun!!! :)
I'd probably make a GOTY who has a developmental disability. Or an Inuit Alaskan girl. And I'd focus more on the Beforevers, as they're the core of the company. Thanks for the fun post!

    1. Thank you! Yes, that would definitely be the FIRST thing I would do!XD Those are some good ideas! I agree about the focusing in on Beforevers...I never really thought about the fact that they are the core of the company. But now that you've said that, you're right! They should be trying to put the best out there with them!:)

  7. Congratulations on a great post. You are right about so many of your points. I feel the original dolls Molly and Kirsten should be back and never had been retired. The foundation of the company were Samantha,Molly and Kirsten. Kirsten was my first.

  8. Yeah, American Girl should TOTALLY make a custom doll booth!!!! I've been wanting that for years!! (Even if I wouldn't buy one because of their stinking high prices :P) And yes, they should TOTALLY do a GOTY who likes to invent things! That would be awesome!!! Oooh, and maybe they should do contests too like where anyone can design like a picnic set or something and then they could judge it and the set could be designed by the fans instead of the company!

  9. Emma what a wonderful post. You are right about so many of the issues. All of the girls Kirsten,Molly,Felicity,Caroline,Marie-Grace and Cecile should never have been retired. Write more stories for the original dolls. Publish the books the way they were published originally. The new ones are not up to par.

    1. Yeah, but then there's also the fact that the AG stores don't have that many places for all of those dolls, so that's why I left it out...XD But I wish they hadn't retired them! I agree!:)

  10. Great ideas, Emma! The custom doll thing totally should happen.

  11. Keep the movies. Little kids love the movies. I can't tell you how many times my kids have asked to watch Grace's movie.

I would also request that AG games and apps be available for all tablets, not just Apple products.

    1. I guess I could see that! I would just make sure to make them better then!;) Oh, I've never thought about that!:D

  12. You might also consider making the clothes for girls actually fit the girls in your recommended age range. AG clothes run very small! My 2yo easily fits in size 6 WellieWishers girls clothing, which only goes up to size 7. My 6yo fits size L/XL clothing in the historical and TM lines.

  15. I pretty much agree with everything. I just like it when the actresses look older than they're supposed to cause I can relate. I've always looked older than my age(still do). I also enjoy the movies I know they are cheesy but I still like to watch them. That's pretty much it everything else I agree with you.

  16. If I had ONE request for AG, it would be to use the Marie-Grace face mold more. It's such a gorgeous mold, but they seem to have forgotten all about it! Kinda mysterious... ;)
