So, You Think You're Growing out of Dolls...

Hi everyone!
I've got a post I hope is gonna be interesting, so let's get right into it!:D

So, you think you're growing out of dolls. You haven't really played with them at all, you haven't wanted to make blog posts, and you're worried you're growing out of dolls. I know how this is first-hand, and occasionally, I'll still feel it.
Lately, I haven't been really wanting a new doll. Usually I have a new doll I want all of the time. I get a new doll, and within a week I'm like- THIS IS THE NEXT DOLL OF MY DREAMS!XD But right now, I have a certain doll in mind if I get any new ones, but I'm still not needing her like normal.
It can worry me if I have lost interest in what I think I should be loving, and I'm like- I don't want to grow out of dolls! I love my dolls! I wanna keep doll blogging!
My perspective and my desire can change, and that is okay. Because it's fine to have your thoughts swap themselves out.

(Wanna just throw out there that no, I'm not growing out of dolls or leaving my blog or anything.XD)

As of late, I've been really into making posts that aren't photostories or photoshoots. I loved making the posts like "What I Would Do If I Owned American Girl" and "The Truth About Being a Doll Blogger". They're unlike what I've done before, and I love it! I've realized that although I still really enjoy making posts about my dolls' lives, my preferences changed. And it's made me feel better about my blog than I ever have! It's made me feel that I am finally where I should be and have figured out what I love to do on this blog.
So, you might not be growing out of dolls, guys. You might just be going into a new part of your love for dolls.
Don't jump into anything or delete your blog just because you haven't been feeling it lately. You wanna know how many times I would have deleted my blog because of feeling that way?
MANY MANY TIMES.XD
That's my thoughts on it. You might just be growing into a new time of doll love. But in case you're not, and it really is time for you to move on, know this---
It is entirely okay.
We all have different seasons in our lives, and you might be entering a new one. Yes, it might be sad, but I have a friend who got back into dolls, made a blog, then left, and she tells me sometimes just how happy she is that she left and that it was the right decision.:)
So...yeah...:)
I don't know entirely where this post is going now that I have written it all down, but I hope it was interesting to read or helped you in some way. If not, I'm sure next time my post will be better.;D

Have you ever felt that you're growing out of dolls? Which doll do you want next?:)

  1. Wow, this is so true, Emma. I've sort of found myself growing out of dolls a bit - it's been harder to think up games and adventures and things to do with them. Having a dollhouse helps, but sometimes I wonder if I still love dolls.
    I loved this post. ♥♥♥

  2. This is such a wonderful post! I know it will help a lot of people who feel as if they might be growing out of dolls.
I thought I felt like I was growing out of dolls once or twice before, when it was a stressful week and I didn't want to make a single blog post. I didn't feel inspired to do anything at all and I just wanted to quit dolls and blogging altogether and simply take care of what I needed to do and relax. But then I realized something - while that might be what I wanted to do that day, I would never want to stop loving dolls and quit blogging for ever, so I just kept with it. When things slowed down I realized how much I loved dolls and blogging and that I really don't want to quit! :)
Once again, wonderful post! I always love reading your blog and your posts are always so amazing! :D

  3. Great post! I sometimes would feel like that. I love doll blogging, but I don't really just play with my dolls much anymore. My playing with them and loving them seems to come out more in photostories and crafts and things on my blog. Sometimes I figure, If you don't want to grow out of them, you probably haven't :-)

    2. Yes! If there's a friend to play with, then I'm in! ;-) I understand the hard to start part, hehe. "Do you want your doll or mine to be the mom? Should they be rich? Are they sisters or friends...?" XD LOL.

  4. You are so wise Emma! You should call these posts like Emma's wisdom lol! But I've never thought of it that way before! I always see people leave the hobby because they just "aren't feeling their dolls anymore" and then they abruptly leave, it's makes me so mad because people change over time and doll collecting/blogging or whatever is it can change and grow with you. You just have to give it time :) But I do understand that some people do move on, and it is ok! This was such an excellent post Emma! So well written and inspirational! :D

  6. Great post, Emma! Yeah, I definitely have these moments, mostly when I think to myself "What on earth, I'm fifteen years old, have a lot of homework to do, and am instead putting a dress on a doll" and even more so when I tell myself I just don't want to do make a post right now! But I'm not leaving, as, just as you said, I'm finding new aspects of doll blogging I love.
Same as you, I don't have any dolls I feel I 'need' right now, but Melody is cute.
Finally, I love your new 'Emma's Wisdom' posts! XD
    Keep up the wonderfulness!

  10. I totally agree with your post, Emma! The way we interact with our dolls may change, but that doesn't mean that we are
"growing out of dolls" altogether. Great post, by the way. :)

  12. I feel like this all the time, but I've come to realize that I just have more depth and more hobbies now than I did before, along with loads more schoolwork, so I don't tend to play with my dolls 100% of the time!

    2. I've gone through periods when I haven't done a lot with my dolls. Nonetheless, I've still enjoyed walking into a room and seeing their bright, cheery smiles. All my dolls are patient and understanding. They are always there when I have the time and inclination for them. Totally non-judgemental.

Life can keep me busier in some time periods than others. I've always viewed this as normal.

Wanting another doll? Mmn, I've been gradually coming to the decision that my current collection offers a variety of sculpts, hair/eye combos, and skin colors. Within recent years, I've noted that new offerings seem to have features that are already in my collection... just in a different mix. Thus, I'm just not as interested in adding more of the same.

I also tend to enjoy original face sculpts more. If I can pick out features of previous face sculpts in a 'new' mold, I'm less likely to be interested.

Personally, I think knowing what you like... learning what is personally appealing... is part of all this.

I also find that focusing on enhancing the story lines of my existing characters or coming up with my DIY characters is very creative. I tend not to tire of dolls that I've had for quite a while because of this. It means that they are not static... but evolving. Also this means that my enjoyment of them continues to evolve. Getting a new doll with limited appeal just because she's a fairly recent release doesn't work for me. I don't always like the physicality of some of the dolls. Nor do I always like the themes. Therefore, choosing just the things which I like seems to mean that I use and enjoy them. Whatever appeals to me initially about a doll, just seems to always be there for me.
